STORED ENERGY FOR THE LOADS THAT MATTER

Home Battery Backup Installation in Sacramento

A home battery stores energy for later use. What it can power during an outage depends on the battery, the connected equipment and the way the system is installed. Solir Electric plans and installs home battery systems in Sacramento around those choices.

Two questions come first

How much power, and for how long?

Power: what can run together

Output capacity determines the loads a battery can supply at the same time. Motor starting requirements can matter as much as normal running power. Air conditioning, electric cooking and EV charging deserve individual attention during design.

Energy: how long it can run

Stored energy determines how long those loads can operate. A fridge and a few lights use energy differently from several large appliances. Runtime also depends on the battery's starting charge and whether solar can replenish it.

Choose which circuits are backed up

Some installations use a selected-loads panel for refrigeration, communication, lighting and other agreed equipment. Others support a wider portion of the home with controls that manage larger loads.

The backup arrangement needs a way to separate the property from the utility supply during an outage. Simply adding a battery to the wall does not establish which circuits remain powered or how the system operates when the grid is unavailable.

Tell us about any appliances you expect to add later. An EV charger, heat pump or induction range can affect the plan even if it will normally stay off during an outage.

Decide what matters most

Make a short list of essential equipment, useful extras and loads you can pause. This gives the design a clear purpose and helps compare selected-circuit backup with a broader installation.

For medically necessary equipment, confirm backup requirements with its provider as well. Household storage should not be treated as an unlimited power source.

Solar and storage

Existing solar changes the compatibility check

A battery can be installed with a new solar system, added to compatible existing solar or, where the equipment and utility arrangement allow, used without solar. The inverter, battery generation, metering and control equipment determine which combinations work.

Ordinary grid-connected solar does not automatically provide electricity during a utility outage. A system designed for backup needs the appropriate isolation and controls. With compatible solar and storage, daytime generation may supply household loads and replenish the battery, subject to available sunlight and operating limits.

If you already have solar, send the inverter and system details, utility information and original installation documents if available. Changes can affect interconnection approval and the applicable utility rate. We review the electrical scope with those requirements in mind.

The installation needs a suitable place to live

Battery location depends on the manufacturer's requirements, environmental conditions, clearances and applicable building and fire requirements. Cable distance to the service equipment, vehicle movement and access for maintenance also affect the design.

We assess the proposed location and electrical route before finalizing equipment placement. Garages, exterior walls and utility spaces have different constraints. Permit review, equipment availability and any utility work can influence the overall schedule.

The plan should identify any panel changes, protective equipment, surface work and responsibilities for related trades. Those details help keep a simple equipment quotation from hiding a larger installation scope.

Compare complete installation proposals

Battery quantity, usable capacity, backup controls, panel work, wiring distance and permitting affect the price. Proposals should describe the backed-up loads and important operating assumptions, not only the number of battery units.

During handover, the settings deserve attention too. Reserving more energy for outages leaves less available for daily use. The correct balance depends on the household's priorities and the features of the selected equipment.

Solir Electric discusses compatible equipment and installation needs without assuming a particular brand is right for every property. Manufacturer certifications, warranty terms and program eligibility should be checked for the chosen product and project.

Before you book

Planning battery backup

Can I install a home battery without solar panels?

Some battery systems support grid charging without solar, subject to equipment and utility requirements. During an outage they depend on the energy already stored unless another approved source can recharge them. We can discuss which arrangement fits your goals.

How long will a battery power my home?

Runtime depends on stored energy, the starting charge and the loads being used. Solar production may extend it in a compatible system. We need those assumptions before discussing a useful estimate; battery count alone does not establish runtime.

Will my existing solar work during an outage?

Only if the system is designed for that function. Standard grid-connected solar generally shuts down when utility power is unavailable. Compatible storage, isolation equipment and controls can support a backup arrangement.

Can a battery run air conditioning?

Potentially, if the selected system supports the unit’s running and starting requirements along with the other active loads. Air conditioning can use stored energy quickly. We review the actual equipment and the desired backup duration.

Can I combine a battery with an existing generator?

Compatibility is specific to the equipment and transfer arrangement. A generator and battery should not be assumed to charge or control each other. Share both models so the permitted operating configuration can be checked.

Are incentives or utility savings guaranteed?

No. Programs, rate schedules and equipment eligibility vary, and household usage affects the economics. Check the current utility terms before relying on an incentive or bill estimate. We do not promise a fixed payback period.
