Outlet and switch installation in Sacramento

A plug that falls out, a kitchen outlet that stopped working, or a dimmer that makes the lights flicker deserves a closer look. Solir Electric repairs and installs outlets and switches in Sacramento, checking the device and the wiring that serves it.

Choose the change by the way you use the room

Replacing a worn receptacle, adding an outlet and fitting a smart switch are different jobs. Start with the problem you want to solve. We can then check the circuit and device requirements before you buy a set of matching hardware.

A kitchen or bathroom outlet keeps tripping

The issue can involve a connected appliance, moisture, the GFCI or wiring elsewhere on the circuit. We trace the cause and determine what needs correction. Another GFCI can protect an outlet even when that outlet has no test and reset buttons.

You need power closer to a desk or bed

Choose a mounting location that works with your furniture. We then check the available supply and a practical route for the wiring. USB receptacles can simplify device charging, but their charging capabilities and box depth differ by model.

The switch works badly or feels loose

Worn contacts, loose mounting, damaged connections or an unsuitable control can be involved. Heat, discoloration or a burning smell warrants attention; keep the affected device out of use and avoid touching damaged parts.

You want smoother lighting control

A dimmer must suit the lamp or fixture and the way the circuit is wired. A three-way switching arrangement and a smart control can need different components from an ordinary single-location switch.

Repair the cause

A new faceplate cannot fix a wiring fault

A device can look worn and still be only part of the problem. We check its supply, connections and condition, then explain the repair. We may need to follow the circuit to another outlet, switch or protective device.

If several rooms or multiple circuits are affected, broader electrical troubleshooting may be needed. Tell us which outlets stopped working together and what was plugged in when it happened. Keep covers in place when sending photographs.

The CPSC identifies unusually warm outlets and switches, loose connections and damaged devices as conditions needing attention in its home electrical safety checklist. For smoke, active arcing or fire, keep away and call emergency services.

Match the protection to the installation

Device or featureIts role
GFCI protectionHelps protect against electric shock by interrupting a ground fault. The location, circuit and applicable rules determine how that protection is provided.
Tamper-resistant receptacleUses internal shutters to restrict access to the contacts. It is a physical protection feature, separate from GFCI protection.
Weather-resistant device and enclosureMatch an outdoor outlet to its exposure and intended use. The receptacle and the cover each have a role.
Grounding connectionProvides the required equipment grounding path where present and properly installed. A third slot on the face does not prove the path exists.

Before choosing a dimmer or smart switch

Check the lamp, wiring and control together

LED flicker can come from a lamp and dimmer combination that does not work well together. The lamp needs to be dimmable, and the control needs to support the load. Manufacturer compatibility information, such as Lutron’s dimmer guidance, helps narrow the selection.

One switch or several locations?

Hallways and stairs often use controls at more than one position. A replacement must preserve the intended operation at every location. Some smart systems require matching companion controls rather than an interchangeable conventional switch.

What is inside the wall box?

Neutral availability, box space, conductor condition and grounding can affect the choice. Some controls need a neutral connection; others are designed differently. We check the specific product instead of assuming every smart switch fits every box.

Plan a single repair or a room of replacements

Count the devices, list their locations and note the function you want at each one. For dimmers or USB outlets, share model information if you already have it. Photos help us understand the style and accessibility, but do not expose wiring for a photograph.

The estimate depends on whether we can use suitable existing wiring, need new cable, need a larger box or must address circuit faults. Surface access, wall finish, device type and the number of locations also affect the work. Permit needs depend on the scope and local authority.

For a group of replacements, settle the color, finish and control functions together. The completed work should include secure mounting and operation checks, with GFCI functions and dimmer settings checked where applicable.

Before you book

About outlets and switches

Why are several outlets dead when the breaker looks on?

An upstream GFCI, a failed connection or another circuit fault can interrupt multiple outlets. The breaker handle does not establish that power reaches every device. We trace the circuit to find where the interruption occurs.

Can you change my two-prong outlets to three-prong outlets?

We first check whether a valid equipment grounding path exists and what the circuit serves. The suitable approach may involve grounding work or an approved protected and labeled replacement arrangement. Simply changing the face does not make an ungrounded circuit grounded.

Should every outlet have a GFCI button?

No. GFCI protection can come from an upstream device or an appropriate breaker. The protected outlets must be identified and tested as required. We check the existing circuit and the protection needed for the location.

Can a smart switch work without a neutral wire?

Some models can, while others require a neutral. Compatibility also depends on the load, grounding and switching arrangement. Send the exact model you are considering so we can check it against the wiring before installation.

Why do LED lights flicker after a new dimmer is fitted?

Possible causes include an incompatible lamp and dimmer, a lamp that is not dimmable, an unsuitable load or wiring problems. We check the combination and operation rather than assuming the dimmer alone has failed.

Can you add an outlet outdoors?

Yes, we can assess a suitable location, circuit and wiring route. Outdoor installations need equipment and an enclosure appropriate to their exposure, along with the required protection. Tell us what you intend to plug in and whether the location is covered.
