Start with the room

What do you need the light to do?

Choose the fixture and its placement together. A row of recessed lights may brighten a room while leaving the countertop where you work in shadow.

Kitchens and work surfaces

Under-cabinet lights illuminate the counter directly. Pendants can define an island or dining area, while recessed lights fill in the room. We look at placement and switching together so preparing dinner does not require every light to be on.

Living rooms and bedrooms

A central fixture may work well for general light, with sconces or other lighting for reading. If you want a ceiling fan with a light, plan the support and controls through our ceiling fan service.

Bathrooms and hallways

Mirror lighting needs a different approach from a hallway fixture. Moisture exposure, fixture location and the available box affect the choice. A light near a shower needs the appropriate rating for that location.

Dining tables and high ceilings

Chandeliers and larger pendants bring mounting weight, access and hanging height into the estimate. Send the model and ceiling height before the visit; a decorative fixture can need more support than the light it replaces.

Replace a fixture or add light somewhere new

For a replacement, we start at the existing ceiling or wall box. We check the box, fixture support, connections and control before fitting the new light. A larger canopy may cover the old opening, but that alone does not tell us whether the mounting arrangement is suitable.

New lighting takes more planning. Recessed lights, wall sconces and under-cabinet systems may need new cable routes, accessible drivers and changes at the switch. Attic access, insulation and finished surfaces can determine where the equipment goes.

Tell us whether you already own the fixtures or want help narrowing the choices. We can review the product information before installation. Any wall or ceiling openings and the scope of finish repairs should be clear in the estimate.

LED lights and dimmers need to work together

A bulb marked dimmable does not work equally well with every dimmer. The lamp or integrated LED driver, control type and connected load all matter. When lights flicker near the bottom of the dimming range, the solution may be a compatible control or an adjustment permitted by the manufacturer.

ChoiceWhat to consider
BrightnessUse lumen output to compare light levels; LED wattage describes power use.
Color temperatureChoose the appearance you want and keep connected areas consistent where appropriate.
Integrated LED or replaceable lampCompare the look with future access to replacement lamps, drivers or modules.
Wall, multi-location or smart controlConfirm compatible wiring, device ratings and the way you want to operate the room.

When the problem is in the light you already have

Flickering, buzzing or a fixture that stops working can come from the lamp, LED driver, socket, switch or circuit connection. We use the symptom to guide testing before recommending a replacement. A new fixture will not fix a wiring fault farther upstream.

Let us know if one light is affected, several lights change together, or the problem begins when another appliance starts. Burning smells, scorch marks or visible sparking call for prompt attention: stop using the affected light and arrange electrical troubleshooting.

If a replacement driver or other part is unavailable, we can discuss replacing the complete fixture. The condition of the housing and the cost of obtaining compatible parts help determine whether repair is worthwhile.

What shapes your lighting estimate

The estimate accounts for the work at each fixture. Ceiling height, fixture weight, wiring access, new switch locations and the condition of the existing circuit change the work. A like-for-like replacement and a new recessed lighting layout should have different scopes.

In Sacramento, the address determines whether the City, County or another local building department handles the work. Permit and energy-code requirements depend on the project. We review those requirements for the proposed installation instead of assuming every fixture change follows the same process.

Send photos of the room and current fixture, the product link if available, and the changes you want. Request a lighting estimate or call (916) 776-8689.

Before you book

Choosing and replacing lights

Can you install a light fixture I purchased?

Yes. Share the model, dimensions and weight so we can review its mounting, electrical and control requirements. Keep the supplied hardware and instructions with the fixture.

Can recessed lighting be added without opening the entire ceiling?

Often the wiring can follow an accessible attic or ceiling space, but framing and finished surfaces affect the route. We explain likely access openings after reviewing the room.

Why do my new LED bulbs flicker on the old dimmer?

The dimmer and lamps may be incompatible, particularly at low brightness. A loose connection or another electrical issue can produce similar symptoms, so the pattern matters.

Can you move a ceiling light over my dining table?

We can assess a new box location and cable route. The old opening and any finish work need to be included in the plan, along with support for the new fixture.

Do I need a permit for lighting work?

That depends on the scope and the authority responsible for your address. New wiring, remodel work and simple replacements can be treated differently. We confirm the applicable requirements for the job.

Should I replace every fixture when switching to LED?

Not necessarily. Some existing fixtures accept suitable LED lamps; others need a compatible retrofit or full replacement. Enclosure ratings, heat, dimming and the fixture's condition guide the choice.
